Waldensian Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church, USA.
Waldensian Presbyterian Church preserves its ties with the original Waldensian church of Italy: Chiesa Evangelica Valdese (Waldensian Evangelical Church) and its subsequent settlement in Uruguay and Argentina, South America: Iglesia Evangelica Valdense (Waldensian Evangelical Church in the Rio de la Plata).
Frequently, we partner with the American Waldensian Society, an organization founded in 1906 by an initiative to raise funds and aid for the Waldensian church in Italy an to arouse and keep alive in the United States the story of the Waldensians.
Worship Schedule
8:45 am: Connections Worship (in Pioneer Hall)
9:45 am: Sunday School (classes for all ages)
11:00 am: Traditional Worship (in the Sanctuary)
Our early service, called “Connections,” is a more casual, informal service, held at 8:30am upstairs in Pioneer Hall, September through May. Coffee and light breakfast are served buffet style, all are invited to sing with the band, and our pastor sits or walks among us as he preaches. Our Connections Band currently includes keyboard, acoustic and bass guitars, and 6-7 singers. They sing and play varied music--new songs and old--from our Glory to God Presbyterian hymnal and beyond. We celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper throughout the year, and it is an open Communion, such that all those who believe in Jesus Christ are welcomed to share Communion with us.
Our traditional service takes place in our sanctuary at 11:00am (starting time shifts to 10:00am during summers when our two services are combined). We celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper throughout the year, and it is an open Communion, such that all those who believe in Jesus Christ are welcomed to share Communion with us.
For our music in worship, we have a 19-rank mechanical action pipe organ, Létourneau Op. 133, which was installed in November of 2017. Our organist, Carla Sperry of Black Mountain, is a master of the instrument and plays service music including classical organ literature and hymn settings by current organ composers and arrangers. We also have a refurbished Steinway 1932 Model M baby grand piano. Our congregation sings from Glory to God, the Presbyterian hymnal published in 2013. Other music in our worship is offered by our Chancel Choir, Handbell Choir, Children’s Choir, instrumental and vocal ensembles, including the Connections Band during times when we combine our services.
All are invited to our worship services. Children may sit with their parents throughout the service or leave with adult Children’s Church volunteers after the children’s message. Our nursery is available until 12:15pm, and is located on the lower floor of the education building.
